The second, Shameful Truth, takes place in Aberfan, Wales. In 1966 a coal mine slide destroyed a village and elementary school, killing 116 children. For thirty years after the 70-day tribunal concluded the party responsible was identified. The facts sequestered from Britain. This is the story of Gaynor Madgewick. She was eight years old when she became one of the ten survivors. Her sister and brother were not among them. I interviewed her and her family, as well as many of the people in the village for a documentary that aired in Boston.

The Porch Sitters

by Carole O’Neill

Purchase on Amazon or Sunset River Marketplace Calabash, NC
Paperback $14.00

Book Description

When Beulah Jean Pickens left the Moncks Corner PD for a career as a private investigator, Myrtle Beach seemed the perfect place to settle and forget the life she left behind.

But when her cousin, Beatrice, called her for help finding the person breaking into homes in her Isle of Palms neighborhood, Beulah Jean’s new world was put to the ultimate test. Questioning her ability to work a criminal case on her own cast doubt in her mind about the skills for which she had once been awarded.

It wasn’t until Wedgewood Summit residents gathered on the porch of their upscale complex and formed a citizen’s posse, that the case moved from a mystery to a discovery. A shock to all.
